Children

Wednesday Church School is a long-standing tradition of the Bayfield Presbyterian Church. Children who are in kindergarten through 5th grade are welcomed to come down the hill from the public school for a brief snack, a gathering time of worship, followed by 15 to 20 minutes of choral singing, and then an hour divided between teaching and arts and crafts.

In the upcoming church school year, our curriculum will be “Seasons of the Spirit,” which is based on the lectionary (the set of readings heard in church during Sunday worship). It’s a resource that is ecumenical and international in its production and outlook, and that seeks to engage the arts and the imagination by relying on the multiple ways in which children learn. The children will grow in their understanding of the Bible, the liturgical year, music that is fun and inspiring, the great variety of ways our faith is expressed around the world, and in ways of expressing their own faith through prayer and service.

We begin each program year after Apple Fest. That means that this year’s start date will be Wednesday, October 10th, 2007. Registration will run through Wednesday, September 26th, and a call (or visit!) to the church office will get you the registration form, church school schedule, and the church school covenant.

Confirmation

New this year will be a pre-confirmation study for grades 7 through 9. This study is envisioned to rotate over three years through a year studying the New Testament, a year studying Church History, and a year studying the Old Testament. Youth who take part in pre-confirmation will then have an excellent foundation for the confirmation study in the 10th grade year. Pre-confirmation and confirmation are taught by the pastor. Pre-confirmation will meet on Wednesdays from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the same schedule as church school. Confirmation is arranged with the confirmands and their families.

Adults

Several options are offered for adult study. On Wednesday mornings at 7 a.m., an informal men's Bible Study meets in the Church library. The pastor teaches a range of classes on a variety of topics. Please call the church office for details about ongoing classes. Other classes are offered as announced.
